SPELLING BEE

FROM Elaine Brown, STATE SPELLING BEE ADMINISTRATOR:
ALL students from registered families may participate in the district bee. The more the better!!!!! There is no minimum age. A 3rd grader placed 3rd in the national bee on year recently. Yes, he is highly unusual, but highly unusual students come from everywhere!!!!

If you are a COVERING OR ASSOCIATION ADMINISTRATOR, please forward all emails from me to all of your faculty members. I would like for all this information to go out to all eligible participants, even if they have not planned to participate. Please advise your faculty that they will need to bring something that will identify them as a member of your covering or association for the 2007-2008 school year to the district bee. A faculty card, a copy of your confirmation from Scripps, etc. will be fine.

I am truly excited about the interest you all have shown in the spelling bees. Homeschoolers have won the Alabama Spelling Bee three out of the last four years. With our increased participation, we have a wonderful chance of continuing that record.

The top three winners from each district bee will go on to compete at the homeschool county bee on February 2nd. The winner of that bee will be our homeschool representative at the Alabama Spelling Bee. Please urge your students to study.  Remember that every student has a chance to win the homeschool slot at the Alabama Spelling Bee.  The winner of that bee receives an all expenses paid trip to Washington to compete with students from around the world.  My daughter won the Alabama Spelling Bee twice, and our experiences in Washington were fantastic!!!

Spell It is just one of many study helps.  Please go to spellingbee.com for more study helps.  If you don't have spelling bee books from past years, ask around.  (PCS HAS SOME.) They are wonderful study guides.
