This is going to be one Re-Enactment you don't want to miss!  Liken
this to being on a Civil War movie set.  I have it on great authority
that this is going to be very educational and realistic.

If you have transportation problems, try carpooling!

and Teachers", Ray Hogg

The nineteenth annual Battle of Selma Civil War Re-enactment will be
held on April 13, 2007.  The Battle of Selma Authority, Inc. would like
to extend a special invitation to your school to visit our Battlefield
Park (located on the banks of the historic Alabama River) on Friday,
April 13, 2007 for our "School Days at the Battle of Selma."  We will
have an organized agenda of living history lectures in addition to
tours of the Confederate and Union campsites.  Your students will get
to see first hand how soldiers fought, dressed and lived during the
Civil War.  We feel that our "School Days at the Battle of Selma" will
make an exciting and enjoyable field trip for students of all ages.
The admission price for this year's "School Days" is $5.00.

1. Each "session" will have 8 to 10 interpretive stations conducted by
"living historians" lasting 10 minutes each.  These "stations" will
possibly include an artillery (cannon) drill and firing; a lesson on
the various uniforms worn during the Civil War; an infantry drill and
firing (with an explanation on the rifles being fired); a field
hospital and medial/surgical demonstration; musicians of the period
(using period instruments); mounted Calvary (with real horses); a
blacksmith; a telegraph station; a photographer; the Henry Rifle
Company; a cooking demonstration; and an actual campsite.
Each "session" will last approximately an hour and thirty minutes.
2.  It is very important that you arrive approximately 30 minutes
before your scheduled starting time, as it is a nice little walk from
the parking area to the battlefield.  Upon arrival, someone will meet
with your bus/car and give you directions.  We will start promptly at
12:00 p.m. each day.  If you are late, you will miss part of your
"session."

Once your group has concluded their session, they will be free to roam
the 40 acre site for as long as they please (you may arrive early or
stay late).  There are many other things to see and do. There is a
Sutler (souvenir) area that will have some 40 Sutlers and food/beverage
booths.  You are encouraged to bring picnic lunches.

Other vendors will be at the site selling hamburgers, French fries,
pizzas, etc.  Your students may also want to bring some extra money to
buy souvenirs or T-shirts from the many Sutlers that will be located at
the site.
